History of the faculty

The Faculty of Food Sciences and Fisheries is one of the ten faculties of the West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin established by the Act of the Parlament of the Republic of Poland of September 5, 2008 (Journal of Laws No. 180, item 1110), resulting from the merger of the Agricultural University of Szczecin and the Szczecin University of Technology.

The Fisheries Department (because that was its first name) was established by the order of the Minister of Higher Education on September 1, 1951 in the organizational structure of the University of Agriculture in Olsztyn. It is noteworthy that it was the only faculty of this type of education in Europe at that time.

Like all Polish fisheries, the Fisheries Department has undergone a deep restructuring, adapting to the current needs of the national economy. In the years 1966 - 1968, pursuant to the Regulation of the Minister of Higher Education of February 16, 1966, the main part of the Faculty was transferred to the Higher Agricultural School in Szczecin, where it was renamed the Faculty of Sea Fisheries.

In 1971 the name of the Faculty was changed to the Faculty of Sea Fisheries and Food Technology and in 2002 to the Faculty of Food Sciences and Fisheries.
